I am a convert to the Gore sealed Ride-On cables. I installed them on my new bike last year not too long after I finished building it. I used XTR cabling to begin with then, when I installed the Ride-On cables, I screwed up the front derailleur and had to put the XTR’s back on. I was able to correctly install the rear cable, which definitely gets more use and is in much better shape than the XTR’s.
I will now, ALWAYS, use Gore Ride-On shifter cables. The shifting is smooth and consistent from the start. There was very little “stretch” period and since they are sealed, I’ve NEVER had them hang up on me.
They do cost a bit more than the regular systems but they last so much longer and are a bit more complicated to install but, you should know that I installed them myself…and I’m not a bike mechanic.
If you want consistent, long lasting and smooth shifting – you need to really look into switching to Gore Ride-On Cables…”sealed” is the best!
(please note I’ve only used the shifter cables, which should be a bit more sensitive than the brake cables and as such, the brake cables should be as good – if not better in duration and operation)
